Choosing A Good Buisiness Com Name
by Shawn Swisher
Before you select your business com name for your website, there are a few things you need to consider first.
1. Your Buisiness Com Name And Business Name Should Match
You want your customers to be able to easily remember your buisiness com name, so when selecting a domain name you should try to register the
same name as your business. For example, if your business is a florist or nursery named "The Flower Patch", you definitely want
to get theflowerpatch.com. If that name is already taken, it's not the end of the world. Although the .com extension is the oldest and
most sought after buisiness com, there are other extensions you can use. You could try theflowerpatch.net or theflowerpatch.biz.
You may also want to try just the buisiness com name "flowerpatch" with any of the available extensions.
If you are just now starting your business, then select an available buisiness com name first, then name your business after
that domain name. Your buisiness com name can be generic or specific. For example, if you sell books you might
try for a generic buisiness com name like books.com (I'm sure that one's taken), or you may be more specific like
scifibooks.com or even annsbookstore.com. The major search providers are difficult to figure out but some schools of thought say there
should be a word in your buisiness com name that relates to the product you are offering. Based on this train of thought, someone
selling reference books might rank better with the search engines by selecting the buisiness com referencebooks.com than one such
as wordsofwisdom.com
2. Your Buisiness Com Should Be Short
Again if you want your customers to easily remember your domain name, you need to select a buisiness com name that is short and
sweet. Which is easier to remember, bobsplumbing.com or roberjohnsonplumbinginc.com? A buisiness com name that is too long will never
be remembered by your customer without having to look at a business card or advertisement for reference. Keep your buisiness com name
short and they will be much more likely to think of it when using the internet. If you do have to have a longer buisiness com name, just
try and make it as easy to remember as possible. Domain names can inlude letters, numbers and dashes, but cannot include
characters. Domain names are not case sensitive, so mybusiness.com is the same as MyBusiness.com.
3. You May Want More Than One
A good strategy is to buy up the competition. If your business name is Acme and you have acquired the buisiness com name of
acme.com, you should check and see if acme.net, acme.biz, acme.org, etc. is also available. If they are, snatch these up so no similar
competitors can infringe on your territory. You may also want to consider similar variations of buisiness com
names like theacmecompany.com, myacme.com and acmestore.com.
4. Don't Spend Big Money On A Buisiness Com Name
Nowadays, domain names can be purchased cheap. Many sites offer buisiness com registration for less than $10 a
year. Sometimes, if you buy in bulk you can get them even cheaper. The point is, even if you find ten similar buisiness com names
with the various extensions, you can get all of these for around $100 or less. Not a bad business investment.
5. Whatever You Do, Register Your Buisiness Com Now!
Buisiness com names are getting
bought up like crazy. Some people are actually using this as an investment strategy. They might buy up 1,000 names in the hope
that a few of them can be resold for big money. A thousand buisiness com names might cost around ten grand but if just 25 of
those names sell for $500, they just made $2,500 on the investment. Now I'm not saying you need to do that, but my point is if you
find a buisiness com name that is available, you better buy it ASAP because there if it is a good name, it won't last long.
